Practice Philosophy

Our practice philosophy is an extension of the philosophy of life that we share. We strive to treat all people with dignity and fairness and do the best we can to provide the best medical attention we have to offer. We feel fortunate to have been married since 1994 and share the parenting of our four wonderful kids. Our partnering extended to sharing a medical practice in early 2001. Since then we have been blessed with a great staff and countless opportunities to be of service to our patients and to our community.

Dr. Brittain is a Board Certified solo practitioner of Gynecology. While many physicians have recently promoted their practice as holistic, he has been actively practicing holistic medicine for over twenty five years. As a D.O. (osteopathic physician see links to osteopathic medicine) he learned early on the value of listening to patients.

Osteopathic physicians have additional skills in palpatory diagnosis and treatment of medical problems that are manifest in structural defects that can be especially treated with the modality of osteopathic spinal manipulation. Many of Dr. Brittainxs patients have benefited from these treatments, alone and in conjunction with conventional medical and surgical care. Often time's complimentary and alternative medical therapies are used with conventional medicine and osteopathic spinal manipulative therapies.

As a Gynecologist, he is trained to care for women from the onset of menses through their golden and declining years. This includes: surgical care, family planning (including vasectomy for men, natural family planning, contraceptive pills and devices, intrauterine devices and tubal ligation for women), treatment of disorders of menstruation, screening for the most common cancers in women (breast, lung, colon/rectum, skin, uterus, cervix and ovary), breast disease, sexually transmitted infections, sexual dysfunction, general health maintenance, pelvic pain, wellness, preventive health, osteoporosis, menopausal problems, depression, and stress counseling. Dr. Brittain has special interest and extensive training in evaluating and treating disorders of pelvic function: moderate and advanced prolapse of pelvic structures (bladder, uterus and rectum), urinary incontinence (leaky bladder). His office has state of the art diagnostic capability for these problems and highly trained technical staff to facilitate proper evaluations.

Dr. Brittain is also Board Certified in Family Practice with over 10 years experience in full spectrum health care for men, women and children of all ages. In order to optimize care of his patients, his practice is limited to health care for women, with the exception of vasectomies for men, and newborn circumcision.
